Use graph paper and draw the figure carefully! It is an irregular quadrilateral.

The easiest way to compute the area is to note that the ordinates of E and C are the same which means that they are on the same horizontal line.

EC divides the quadrilateral into 2 triangles with the same base (EC)

EC is 6 units long.

The altitude to B is 4 and the altitude to D is 2.

You can see those values from your graph or you can get them from the values of the ordinates.

The area therefore(1/2)6(4+2)=18.
