To get the answer, you want to look at the balanced equation and note that 2 moles of aluminum (Al) can produce 1 mole of aluminum oxide (Al2O3). That's the critical relationship that exists. Using dimensional analysis, we can easily find the moles of Al2O3 that can be formed from 6.9 moles of Al.
6.9 moles Al x 1 mole Al2O3/2 moles Al = 3.45 moles = 3.5 moles Al2O3 formed.
