Find the area of MNOP

I am told this is a 30, 60, 90 right triangle.

Therefore: the height of the right triangle is 3 square root 3

The formula for area of trapezoid is A=1/2(b1+b2)h

The formula for the answer in my book is: A=1/2(4+7)3square root 3=

33/2(3 squareroot 3)

??? Where did the 7 come from is my first question? Please explain.

I did this a little differently.

Area of the figure = area of the rectangle + area of the triangle

=(l)(w)+1/2(b)(h)

= (4)(3√3)+(1/2)(3)(3√3) Simplify

= 12√3+9/2√3 Common denominator

= 24√3+9/2√3 Add

=33/2√3 mm²

To answer your 7 question, the top of the figure is 4. That will also translates to the bottom. So the entire bottom is 4+3 = 7.
