John spent 1/3 of his allowance on baseball cards 1/4 on baseball souvenirs and 3/8 on a baseball ticket. If he had five dollars left how much allowance did he start with?

(1/3)X + (1/4)X + (3/8)X + 5 = X

(8/24)x + (6/24)x + (9/24)x + 5 = x

(23/24)x + 5 = x

5 = (1/24)x

x = 120

(1/3)*120 = 40

(1/4)*120 = 30

(3/8)*120 = 45
