I love helping students learn!
Since you know the perimeter is 40in (the distance around the square or all the sides added together) and you know that each side must add up to a total of 40in, you can use that to answer the following:
a) What is the length of each side?
b) How does the area relate to the side lengths?
a) Knowing that you’re dealing wit a square, every side must be equal in length. Since there are 4 sides, and the perimeter is 40, each side must be 10in. 40 divided by 4 (sides).
b) The area of a square can be interpreted by the equation “length times width”.
The length is the same as the width (10”), therefore 10 times 10 = 100 m2.
