Missy's rectangular dog pen measures 8 ft by 8 ft. How many feet of fencing do I need to buy to fence my dog pen?

The fence would need to go the whole distance around the pen, 4 sides. Each side is 8 ft so

8 ft x 4 sides = 32 ft of fence are needed

Hi Jason,

when you need to bounded any area by fences it means you need to find perimeter

This area is rectangular that in fact it is a square because length and width are the same as 8 feet

perimeter of rectangular = 2 ( length + width ) = 2 ( 8 + 8 ) = 2 (16) = 32 feet

OR

perimeter of square = 4 ( side ) = 4 ( 8 ) = 32 feet
