Here is how you can tell if lines are perpendicular when the equation is presented in the slope-intercept form ( y=mx +b)
the slopes of the two lines ( represented by m) must be opposite in sign ( one positive and one negative)
the slopes must also be reciprocals of each other i.e 2 and - 1/2 or -2 and 1/2
