Assuming the dilation is centered at (0, 0) the new point is (-5, 5).

What does this mean?
"A dilation has (0,0)"
I assume that a dilation is usually specified with a reference point that remains fixed. (call it an "anchor point")
I assume that a dilation of 2.5X means that the distance of any point from the reference is multiplied by 2.5.
When the center of dilation is the origin, just multiply the coordinates of A by the scale factor k:
A' = kA = (-2·2.5, 2·2.5) = (?, ?)

Because the center is (0,0) we can just multiply the coordinates by the scale factor.
So we get:(-5,5) as the image
