In order to buy a gift, a group of people each provided $1.90, but they were $19 short of the total. They then each provided $2.75, and this time they had $15 too much. How much did the gift cost?

Then, price of gift  = 1.90x + 19 = 2.75x - 15

 

                                                    34 = 0.85x

 

                                                     x = 34/0.85 = 40 people

 

Price of gift = 1.90(40) + 19 = $95
