The likelihood of sampling error decreases as the value becomes more extreme. You can use the z-score to determine this, since the z-score magnitude of x tells you how many standard deviations x is from the mean. So the largest z-score magnitude (which is D, -2.2) is the most extreme value and least likely to occur by chance.
