The answer is 10 and 8. First we can think of all the numbers that can add to 18. 1 and 17, 2 and 16, etc. However, if we keep in mind that the two numbers must also have the difference of 2, we know they must be close to each other on the number line. I like to break a number in half and work up and down from there. 18 divided by 2 is 9. Obviously 9 minus 9 equals zero, so 9 and 9 is not the answer here. Working from there I think of the next number up from 9: 10. 10 plus 8 equals 18. 10 minus 8 equals 2. I have found my answer.
