A blimp provides aerial television views of a tennis game. The television camera sights the stadium at a 13 degrees° angle of depression. The altitude of the blimp is 400m. What is the​ line-of-sight distance from the television camera to the base of the stadium​? Round to the nearest hundred meters.

If you draw a right triangle, one side is 400m, the angle of elevation (= angle of depression) is 13^o and the hypotenuse is h, the distance you seek. Since the angle of elevation and the 400m side are opposite, we need to use the sine of that angle:

sin(13^o) = 400m / h

h = 400m / sin(13^o) which works out to 1778.16m. Rounded to nearest 100m, this is 1800m.
