Experienced Geometry Teacher Who Can Explain ‘Why’
I am guessing that (3x + 2), (4x + 1) and (2x) are all sides of triangle ABC.
To find perimeter, we add up all of the sides. For this problem, we know what the perimeter is, so we can set that sum equal to 96. So we write:
3x + 2 + 4x + 1 + 2x = 96
Combine like terms:
9x + 3 = 96
Solve for x. When solving, reverse the order of operations, PEMDAS. With PEMDAS, addition and subtraction come last, but when solving, you do those operations first.
Subtract 3 from both sides:
9x = 93
Divide both sides by 9:
x = 93/9.
