This type of problem would be easier if you factor out the numerator, reduce, then substitute the f(-3) back in to get your answer.
numerator (X^2 - 9) expand it to (X-3) (X+3)
denominator (X+3)
So (X+3) reduces or cancel, you then left with (X-3), then substitute f(-3) = -3 - 3 = -6
-6 should be the correct answer,
