Let "L" be the length of the rectangle, let "W" be the width, and let "P" be the perimeter. So, P = 2W + 2L
"A rectangles length is 1.25 times it’s width" means L = 1.25W or W = L/1.25
Using W = L/1.25 and substituting "L/1.25" where we se "W" in the perimeter equation P = 2W + 2L, we get P = 2(L/1.25) + 2L or
P = 1.6L + 2L or
P = 3.6L
"It’s perimeter is 3 times the length plus one" means P = 3L + 1
Substituting "3.6L" for "P" we get:
3.6L = 3L + 1
0.6L = 1
L = 5/3
Using W = L/1.25, we get W = 4/3
