asked 12/13/19What is this equation? ρAv = C
Hello,
I think this equation has something to do with fluid statics, but can't quite recall. A refresher would be extremely helpful

It is the equation for steady flow, i.e. flow at a constant mass flow rate through a surface.
ρ = density of fluid
A = cross sectional area of flow
v = velocity of flow (e.g. m/s)
Mass flow rate is ρAv. This product has units of mass/time (e.g. kg/s).
If ρAv = constant, the flow is steady, meaning the mass flow rate does not change along the flow. However, the velocity, density, and cross sectional areas may change along the flow, but the flow is still steady if their product does not change.

C is mass flow, ρ is density, A is cross sectional area, v is fluid velocity
