It would have been better if you included the entire question and some of the information from problem #11 so that we could see exactly what is going on, but since that isn't the guess, some guesswork on our part is required.
If you are looking at NaCl and you know that the percent of the specified element is 39.6 %, then to find the grams of the specified element, you simply take 39.6% of the molar mass.
For NaCl the molar mass = 58.44 g/mole
58.44 g x 0.396 = 23.1 g of the specified element in one mole of the compound. This will change depending on how many moles of the compound you have.
