How about air travel, incorporating the concepts of speed and velocity?
An airplane moves within a volume of air (sometimes called an "air mass") The volume of air may also be moving. To find the velocity and direction with respect to the ground, we perform a vector addition of the velocity of the air mass relative to the ground and the velocity of the plane relative to the air mass. Vector addition requires the use of both magnitudes an angles and the rules of geometry and trigonometry.

However, stuff can still happen! When the current public library in Princeton, NJ was being constructed, the foundation slab was poured in two parts, due in part to an environmental cleanup taking place concurrently. The two parts were perfectly aligned horizontally, and each was flat, but they differed by an inch or so vertically. To avoid removal and reconstruction of either slab part (would have cost $millions), the "lower part" of the building was supported by metal discs placed around the vertical rebar stubs.
