What happens to the size of the elements as one progresses from left to right?

You would think adding mass (protons and electrons) would make an element larger. But, the correct answer is the opposite. If you stay in the same row, you have the same number of electron shells, but more protons pulling them in. So, left to right atomic radius gets smaller.
