Construct a line through point D that is parallel to line AB.

Parallel lines never touch. If you draw a line that does not tilt either up or downthrough D, your line will be parallel. Think railroad tracks.

If your line tilts at all, even if you don't draw it crossing, because the arrows mean the lines go on forever in both directions, they cross past what you have drawn.
