Let "a" be the angle and let "c" be the complement to that angle. That means a + c = 90. But we also know that a + 38 = c so that means we can plug in "a + 38" wherever we see "c"
Using the first equation (a + c = 90) replace "c" with "a + 38" to get a + (a + 38) = 90. Now solve using algebra.
Combine like terms: 2a + 38 = 90
Subtract 38 from both sides: 2a = 52
Divide both sides by 2: a = 26
One angle is 26°, the complement to that angle is 60° (26° + 38° = 60°)
