What you have to do is draw a right triangle, making this line the hypotenuse.
Start by drawing a line between the two points. Next, draw a line down from (7,4) to (7,2). Now draw a line from (7,2) to (-3,2). Stand back and admire the right triangle you just drew!
The length of the line from (7,4) to (7,2) is 2. The length of the line from (7,2) to (-3,2) is 10.
Now use Pythagorean theorem:
a2 + b2 = c2
22 + 102 = c2.
104 = c2
c = 10.198
