Boarder Width Calculation

Question

I have installed a new sidewalk from my driveway to my front porch. The sidewalk is 60 inches wide and 30 feet long. I want to border it with mulch. The question is about the width of the mulch trench. On each side of the sidewalk should the width be 12, 16 18 or 24 inches, etc? I'd like to apply the Golden Ratio to figure this out but I don't know how to do that. Can you help? Thank you. Tom R.

Your walk is 30 x 5 feet.

You are not clear on what should be in the Golden Ration

Assuming you want the shape of the walk and mulch to be a golden rectangle.

The width of the rectangle must be 30(0.61803398875) ft.

The width must be 18.541 feet.

You need to add 6.77 feet to both sides
