MATH HELP FOR GEOMETRY HOMEWORK

Question

Points A, B and C are collinear such that AB:BC = 2:3. Point A is located at (1,3) and Point C is located (9,11).

Find B(x,y) and the Midpoint M given the endpoints. 

(Hint: Draw a picture). Write both as an ordered pair with no spaces and as decimals if needed.

draw the line on graph paper

make a right triangle starting at (1,3) and going up 8 units and going right 8 units because 9-1=8 and 11-3=8

B is 2/5 of the way from A to C

2/5 of 8 is 3 1/5 or 3.2

2/5 of 8 again is 3.2

A=(1,3)

from 1 go 3.2 units right to get to 4.2 for x

from 3 go 3.2 units up to get to 6.2 units for y

B=(4.2, 6.2)

M=[(9+1)/2, (11+3)/2]

M=(5,7)
