the midpoint M of BC has coordinates (5,5). Point B has coordinates (6,0). Find the coordinates of point C.

Answer 1

Look the change in the X value going from on end to the midpoint. To get to the other end, apply this change to the midpoint value.

For X:

From B to M, the change in X is -1. Therefore, it is also -1 from M to C. So, at C, X = 4

Use the same procedure for Y.

Answer 2

Let C = (x,y)

Then, (x+6)/2 = 5 and (y+0)/2 = 5

So, x = 4 and y = 10

B = (4,10)
