Mario needs to work 32 5/6 hours this week. He has worked 19 7/8 so far this week. How many more hours does he need to work this week?

I just can not figure out how to get this answer, an explanation would be very helpful, thanks in advance:)

(32 5/6 ) - (19 7/8) <-- the common denominator of 6 and 8 is 24

So then

5/6=20/24

7/8 = 21/24

and

1 = 24/24

The problem becomes:

(31 +1 + 5/6) - (19 + 21/24) =

(31 + 24/24 + 5/6) - (19 + 21/24) =

(31 + 29/24) - (19 + 21/24) =

31 + 29/24 - 19 - 21/24 =

12 + 8/24

12 + 1/3

12 and 1/3
