asked 09/08/19The perimeter of the rectangular playing field is 548 yards. The length of the field is 6 yards less than quadruple the width. What are the dimensions of the playing field?
1 Expert Answer
Width = 56 yards
Length = 218yards
Perimeter = 2(Width) + 2(Length)
P = 2W + 2L
P = 548
L = 4W - 6
548 = 2W + 2(4W - 6)
Divide both sides by 2
274 = W + 4W - 6
Combine like terms
274 = 5W - 6
Add 6 to both sides
280 = 5W
Divide both sides by 5
56 = W
4W - 6 = L = 4(56) - 6 = 224 - 6 = 218
Checking
548 = 2(56) + 2(218)
548 = 112 + 436
548 = 548
