AB + BC = AC

2x + 7x = 36, (add 7x +2x)

9x = 36, (divide both sides by 9)

x = 4

AB = 2x = 2(4) = 8

BC = 7x = 7(4) = 28

Use the Pythagorean theorem AC² +BC² =AC² hence 4x² +49x² =1296 or 53x² =1296 and x² = 24.45 and x= 4.945 making AC = 9.889 and BC = 34.615.
