Hi Alyssa G.,
A B c
AB = 2x; BC = 7x; AC = 36;
AB + BC = AC
2x + 7x = 36, (add 7x +2x)
9x = 36, (divide both sides by 9)
x = 4
AB = 2x = 2(4) = 8
BC = 7x = 7(4) = 28
I hope this helps, Joe.

Strong proficiency in elementary and advanced mathematics
Use the Pythagorean theorem AC2 +BC2 =AC2 hence 4x2 +49x2 =1296 or 53x2 =1296 and x2 = 24.45 and x= 4.945 making AC = 9.889 and BC = 34.615.
