If the length of one side of a square increases by 3 centimeters, the perimeter of the new square is 40 centimeters more than twice the length of the side of the original squad. Find the length of the side of the original square.

s+3 cm = original square's side increased by 3 cm

new perimeter = 4(s+3) = 4s+12

old perimeter = 4s

new perimeter increased by 12 cm

the new square perimeter increases by 40 more than twice the original squaire's side length

12 = 40+2s

6 = 20+s

s = -14 cm which makes no sense unless you're in the twilight zone, or a negative length refers to direction on a graph
