s+3 cm = original square's side increased by 3 cm
new perimeter = 4(s+3) = 4s+12
old perimeter = 4s
new perimeter increased by 12 cm
the new square perimeter increases by 40 more than twice the original squaire's side length
12 = 40+2s
6 = 20+s
s = -14 cm which makes no sense unless you're in the twilight zone, or a negative length refers to direction on a graph
