If you are trying to find the midpoint, the segments have to be the same length. You can set up the following equation and solve.
8x-7=6x+7 Subtract 6x from both sides
8x-7-6x=6x+7-6x Simplify
2x-7=7 Add 7 to both sides
2x-7+7=7+7 Simplify
2x=14 Divide by 2
2x/2=14/2
x=7
You can find the length of both segments:
8(7)-7 = 49
6(7)+7 = 49
