@Sammy G. gave excellent examples of Cu reacting with nitric acid (HNO3). I'd like to add an example of Cu reacting with hot concentrated sulfuric acid (H2SO4)
Cu(s) + 2H2SO4 (aq, hot, concentrated) ==> CuSO4(aq) + SO2(g) + 2H2O(l)
It's important to note that in order for Cu to enter into these reactions, there must be an oxidizing agent present capable of oxidizing the copper (NO3-, SO42-, etc.). These are redox reactions.
