An irrational number is one that cannot be represented by a simple fraction of two whole numbers.
some examples are the constant pi (≈3.14159...). The mathematical constant e ≈2.71828 (which is between -3 and 3) and is an irrational number.
Many square roots are irrational. √2 has been proven to be irrational, and is ≈1.414 and is another answer to the problem.
There are many other irrational numbers which involve logarithms and more complex mathematical ideas.
