asked 08/22/19What are 10 daily activities that people participate in every day and how they relate to the functions of government.
The functions of government are providing leadership, maintaining order, providing public services, providing national security, and providing economic security and economic assistance. I was wondering what were some common daily activities that people participate in that would relate to some of these functions.

Going to a public school.
Living in an area where there are public services such as the police and fire department. Public services also include libraries. Your local government (usually the city you live in) provides these services, and you pay taxes to help cover it.
Laws you follow such as obeying traffic laws, getting a driver's license, getting a passport, and paying taxes (some of these are run by the federal government, and others are through state or local government.
Not every day: voting, receiving federal assistance (maybe, if you're lucky FEMA will help you) from being in a natural disaster such as a hurricane, the National or your State Guard (a form of the military) will be sent to your area in a declared emergency.

Another big one is the mail service (US Postal Service, USPS). Amazon Prime, UPS, FedEx, and DHL are private companies, but the USPS delivers to your mailbox. Not all public services are completely free, even after taxes (think library fines or toll roads), but they are government-run.08/22/19

Hi Reyannon,
Public parks are also a public service as are roads and bridges that we drive on every day, maintained by national, state and county governments.
If you are unemployed or under the poverty line for income, the state and federal government might help you with unemployment payments, welfare payments, food stamps and/or government-funded healthcare (Medicaid).
The US Armed Forces keep us safe from threats to our national security and there are military bases all over the world and in the US that contribute to local economies.
