Yoko, Juan, and Goran sent a total of 105
text messages over their cell phones during the weekend. Goran sent 10
more messages than Yoko. Juan sent 3
times as many messages as Goran. How many messages did they each send?
Let Y = Yoko's messages
Let J = Juan's messages
Let G = Goran's messages
Y + J + G = 105
G = Y + 10
Y = G - 10
J = 3G
Substitute back into
Y + J + G = 105
(G - 10) + 3G + 1G = 105
5G - 10 = 105
5G = 115
G = 115 / 5
G = 23
J = 3G = 3*23 = 69
Y = G - 10 = 23 - 10 = 13
Yoko sent 13 messages, Juan sent 69 messages, and Goran sent 23 messages is the answer that you seek.
