I think that Cynthia B gets the gold star, according to a strict reading of the PEMDAS rules. In the real world, such as in a computer program, I would add another pair of parens to make it clear to human readers what my intent was.08/17/20

So is it 1 or 16?08/17/20
Leiana V.
The answer is 1608/18/20

PEMDAS first, then left to right.08/18/20

People get “1” as the answer if they distribute the 5.08/18/20

So if Pemdas is first that means .... 20 ÷ 5(1+3) ...Parentheses, exponents , multiply , divide , addition , subtraction.... 20 ÷5(4) so now it's multiplication turn ... which makes it 20 ÷20 ... now you do left to right .. and it equals 108/18/20

multiplication and division are equal to each other so when they're next to each other you work it left to right same with addition and subtraction08/19/20

I'm sorry but 20 ÷ 5(1+3)=1 becasue you start with 1+3 which is 4 then multiply 4 and 5 which is 20 then divide which is one08/19/20

While yes they are equal side by side the parentheses indicates its to be done before the division so we would add first 1+3=4×5=20÷20=108/21/20

Except that the parentheses after you add is no longer parentheses but means multiplication which is how we arrive at 16 instead of 108/24/20

The answer to this question is still 1 though. Regardless of how you write it out when solving this question is asking 20 divided by the solution to 5(1+3), not 20 divided by 5 times (1+3). If you wanted to be particular about it it should be written 20/(5(1+3))09/23/20

Thats the wrong answer 20÷5(1+3) 20÷5(4) 4(4) 1608/12/20
