The things that need to be forecast regarding logistics is customer demand, raw material prices, labor costs and lead times. How a supply, manufacture and delivery plan (logistics) works depends on those things. You do not want to be delivering candy canes to the stores in July.
Want to time your purchase of supplies when the price is low. Unless getting the supply when at a low price means you will not have it when you need it.
Need an idea of what the customer demand will be. Do not want to be very short on what will be sold. Even worse is over supply as that means money you have spent was wasted.
Want a good price on supplies that will arrive just before you need it, labor costs allow a profit, the lead time allows getting the product to the buyer when they want it.
