- Practice. It is important to practice a speech so the first time will not be your presenting time. This also helps you figure out the timing, how and when to fluctuate your voice, and if any sections could be taken out or modified.
- Ask friends or family to listen to your speech. Preparing in front of audiences is different than practicing in front of the mirror or to yourself as they can provide extra feedback and give you a sense of what the final presentation will be like.
- Be sure to feel good the day you present. If you feel tired, hungry, or any way other than well it can impact how you present.
- Focus on your topic but be cognizant of the audience. When giving serious speeches it is important to focus on the topic at hand rather than making jokes like a stand-up comic, but that doesn't mean you have to be boring. Be sue to read your audience and note what works or does not work as you speak.
- Remind yourself that "You got this!" Confidence when speaking is a huge bonus and can go a long way.
