The surface area for this will be the surface area of square base plus the surface areas of 4 triangles that the base makes with the top of pyramid.

 

Surface area of the square is 3*3 = 9 sq ft

Surface area of each triangle is 1/2*base*ht = 1/2*3*4 = 6 sq ft

Surface area of 4 triangles = 24 sq ft

 

Total surface area = 24 + 9 = 33 sq ft
