15 + 0.03x = 5 + 0.08x

10 = 0.05x

x = 10/0.05 = 200

meaning that at exactly 200 checks, the costs between the two are equal. that means that you want to write fewer than 200 in order for the credit union to be the better deal

You need to solve the inequality: 5 + .08c ≤15 + .03c which is solved in exactly the same way as if it were an equation!
