A fruit company delivers its fruit

A fruit company delivers its fruit in two types of boxes: large and small. A delivery of 5 large boxes and 3 small boxes has a total weight of 131 kilograms. A delivery of 2 large boxes and 6 small boxes has a total weight of 116 kilograms. How much does each type of box weigh?

Make two different equations showing the no of each type of boxes and their total wt.

Suppose L kg is the wt of large box and s kg is the wt of small box.

5L + 3s = 131 kg

2L + 6s = 116 kg. Multiply 1st eq by —2 to eliminate s term and determine L

—10L = —262

2L = 116

–8L. = —146

L. = —146/—8 = 18.25kg is the wt of large box. Determine wt of small box by substituting value of L in any equation

2×18.25.+6s = 116

6s = 116 —36.5 =79.5

s = 79.5/6 = 13.25kg is the wt of small box
