For a graduation speech you will want your tone to be serious, but not too serious. This will help your chances of a speech being accepted by the administration for presentation purposes and keep the audience's attention. If your speech is too serious, like someone proposing a business deal, your audience could lose interest and view you as too rigid. Try to keep your tone firm but light, maybe even with some jokes sparsely spread throughout to regain anyone who might have been lost.
Above all, do not give a speech that is more than a few minutes in length. People do not have incredibly long attention spans and lose interest in long-winded speeches or when people talk past getting their point across.
Have fun, stay honest, and tell your audience what you feel they should hear from you.
Good luck on your speech!
