5(x - 3) + 9 = 3(x - 4) - 2
5x - 15 + 9 = 3x - 12 - 2
5x - 6 = 3x - 14
2x = -8
x = -4
5(x - 3) + 9 = 3(x - 4) - 2
5x - 15 + 9 = 3x - 12 - 2
5x - 6 = 3x - 14
2x = -8
x = -4

5(x-3)+9=3(x-4)-2
Step 1: Distribute numbers outside the parentheses first which will look like this.
5x-15+9=3x-12-2
Step 2: Remember the addition and subtraction rules rules of integers. When adding two numbers of different signs you actually subtract and take the sign of the higher absolute value. e.g.(-15+9= -6)
When subtracting integers (KCF) Keep Change Flip meaning Keep the sign of the left number, change the operation from subtraction to addition and flip the sign of right number. e.g. (-12 - 2=> -12 + -2= -14)
Step 3: 5x - 6= 3x - 14
-3x +6 -3x +6
2x = -8
You add the 6 from -14 to the other side, while subtracting 3x from the 5x
Step 4: 2x = -8
you divide 2 from both sides to have
x = -4
