Very little rhythmic structure; more chant-like.

Monophonic music; simple

Little to no use of instruments/accompaniment

Renaissance:

Smooth and structured rhythm; still some chant, but now secular music was introduced as well

Polyphonic music; more of an art form; madrigals

New instruments are being introduced; accompaniment of vocals
