In Thai language, children call their parents "คุณพ่อ" and "คุณแม่" or just "พ่อ" and "แม่." The transliteration into english is "koon paw," and "koon may," or "paw," and "may."

The คุณ or "koon" portion of the word is the same as the polite form of "you." When directly to someone speaking politely in Thai, the word "koon," is often used. However, it can also be placed before the words for "dad," "mom," "grandma," "grandpa," etc to show respect.
