Why does mineral oil occur below natural gas?

Why does mineral oil occur below natural gas? It was asked in our science book in the Geology section and I didn't get a clear explanation from the teacher.

Solids are typically heavier than gases. Also, mineral oil is in a solid state; so the physical characteristic of the substance will cause it to follow the path of least resistance. Since gravity prevents an object from flowing upwards, the path that the substance takes is therefore downwards. Hope this helps.
