Question about billiards shot angles

I'm trying to find a quick method to determining the angle of a shot I may take in pool.

It's my understanding that given a fixed table rectangle, I can use the diamond marker inlays around the shelf of the table as reference points to determine the angle of a shot. The shot being a cue ball, an object ball, and the path the cue ball needs to travel towards the object ball thus setting the object ball in motion on the correct path to reach a desired pocket. I would think that if I can roughly figure out my trajectory for the cue ball and the desired trajectory of the object ball, I can figure out the angle the cue ball path and object ball path would be in order to pocket the ball.
