The language was influenced by the French speaking Walloon's. French was considered of a higher nobility and to succeed in Belgium it was best to learn French even it you were Flemish speaking . in later years it would lead to a better standing and better jobs
Why do Belgium's former African colonies seem so much more French influenced than Dutch influenced? Was Dutch/Flemish not the language of Belgium colonialism?
