The Spanish occupied The Netherlands though beyond some cultural elements (that impacted the Dutch Society) the Spanish language did not impact the Dutch language, considering how guttural (sounding) the Dutch language is and has always been throughout the ages. Worldwide there are only about 25 million people who speak Dutch.
Note: Amsterdam, The Capitol of The Netherlands was founded in 1275.
PS: The War of Independence between The Dutch and The Spanish started in 1568 and ended in 1648 (Known as the 80 year war)
