A motorcycle is idling in front of your house. Three more motorcycles arrive making the same amount of noise as the first. By how much has the decibel level outside of your house increased?

Explain why you do not need to know the decibel level associated with the first motorcycle.

You've multiplied the amount of noise by 4. Every time you do that, the number of decibels increases by the same amount.
