Native Dutch speaker who is capable of explaining Dutch in English
Hi! No, Dutch and German are not mutually intelligible. German uses different grammatical structures and words than in Dutch. Some words sound similar, but a German speaker could not understand a Dutch speaker and it would be hard for a Dutch speaker to understand a German speaker. Many of my friends who are native Dutch speakers are usually required to learn German or French in school and they find German more difficult to learn opposed to French.
I hope this helps!
